Six generations have tended the terroir to make the most natural wines possible here at DOMAINE JOËL TALUAU – THIERRY FOLTZENLOGEL, a simple estate with a human touch. In 1970 Clarisse and Joël Taluau started out with 2.2 hectares of vines and 5 hectares of orchards which they very gradually converted to vineyards.
The estate grew and shortly afterwards they invested in equipment which enabled them to showcase and express the best of their terroir. In 1993 one of their daughters, Véronique, with her husband Thierry Foltzenlogel, came to work on the estate. Today it is with the grandchildren of Joël and Clarisse, Mélanie and Nicolas, that we cultivate 32 hectares of vines, 25 in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil and 7 in Bourgueil.
Most of our vines are planted on gentle, south-facing slopes where the soil is principally chalky clay. We leave natural vegetation to grow between the rows and treat the vines only when absolutely necessary. Our wines are either fruit-driven for early drinking (L’Expression and Vau Jaumier) or more full-bodied with round complex tannins (Les Vieilles Vignes and L’Insoumise). The latter can be laid down for a few years if you can resist the temptation to drink them immediately.
Our priority is pleasure… the pleasure of making wine and of sharing it with you.
